The road south

December 9th, 2009

Traveling south, Garrick  started explaining where they were going, his tales of the north entertained the group.  ”The further south you go it will be cold.  Before you get to the great mountains the ground under foot will get squishy, and sometimes your feet will break through the tundra.” He paused, “It is the most beautiful place in our world.  The mountains are blue with white caps in the winter.  The stone glows pink against the blue.”

Danulf asked, “What kind of mineral is that?”

Grisum smiled, “Alcurian, you should know, that mineral is clalix, a rare stone for skrying.”

“The art of seeing the future, or the ability to walk with yourself. That never interesting me.” Danulf admitted.

Mindy interrupted, “How will my butterfly survive in the cold.”

“You could stay behind.” Dena suggested.

“Bitter much,” The lich Grisum asked.

“No,” Dena stated, “Just protecting who we care about should be the priority.”

Danulf said a few words over the butterfly, “It should stay warm for a week now.”

“Thank you,” Mindy stated.

All walked over the dirt road.  Garrick telling tales.

South

October 27th, 2009

The ship reached the edge of the sands, the terrain turned into hills and sharp rocks.  The plant life started in this area, with some cactus and small shrubs.  The ship had to be abandoned here.  This was the southern desert.  The beginning of the Baclon Area, where Garrick was from.

They packed up what they could. Danulf placed a spell over his vessel, and they started off on foot further south.

Grisum lead them.  Everybody had their doubts that the centuries old woman would know where to find the man she loved.  Or even if he was still alive.

They walked south.

The Lich did not leave

October 14th, 2009

Dena felt guilted. But there was nothing she could do. How could she really go back on her word?

Greenly sat on the deck waging it’s long tail. Dena closed the short distance to her hound. She started to undo it’s bridle. Taking it off got her a huge lick on the cheak.

Danulf came up to her, if you don’t want to stay with Mindy anymore my cabin is open.”

“In your imagination, I’d sleep on deck before we share cabins. You are not making the Lich leave.”

“How can you be so cold to family?” Danulf asked.

“That family is centuries old. My body might have only a little bit of her in it.”

“The Lich is staying.”

“So am I.” Dena said.

Honor or none

October 12th, 2009

Danulf looked shocked, “So you are staying.”

“Yup, if she is leaving.” Dena jumped off of Greenly’s back.

Grisum smiled, “I don’t have to stay, but you do.”

Danulf responded, “I gave my word to help the Lich.  I don’t think she is leaving since this is my ship.”

Dena looked at the two of the individuals staring at her. “Why do I feel like I made another mistake.  Okay, she is not leaving and you want me to stay?”

“You have to ask, of course I want you to stay, you made a promise sorta to the group.”

Grisum spoke up, “We are on our way to find the man who I fell in love with.” She turned walking from the deck.

“I think you are right, Danulf, I have no honor.” Dena stated.

Which is leaving

October 8th, 2009

“Wait.” A voice from the shadows said, Danulf turned recognizing Grisum.

“Don’t,” Danulf said, “Leave her alone.”

Grisum slyly stated, “I see, you are feeling protective of her.”

Dena had Greenly hesitate on the barrels.  She knew she was a woman of honor.  But, it really disturbed her having that monster be a relative.  The Lich became what she is by choice.  So why was it her obligation to help.  Something her mother said stood out, “Family helps family.”

Grisum said to Danulf, “If this is a problem, now that I am free I will leave.  I really don’t need mortals to help me.”

Dena had Greenlyjump back to the deck. “Danulf, you are right.”

About to leave

October 7th, 2009

The deck sparkled under all the scrubbing.  The night sky glowed with stars, and Dena was getting ready to jump ship.  Greenly, the riding hound, was packed.  Dena was mounting her when Danulf gripped her arm. “Where are you going?”

“The task is finished.” Dena stated plainly.

“Yes, I know that, but where are you going, didn’t you agree to help the Lich?” Danulf asked. “Your word is not good is it?”

“Why should I help that monster? My goal is finished.  I don’t want to be around that thing, even if it is a distant relative.” Dena huffed, she pulled her arm away from him.

Danulf guessed at what was bothering Dena, “She spoke to you today didn’t she?”

Dena mounted Greenly, “What does it matter? I am not a warrior, I am a hunter.  I have to go back to rebuild what was lost.”

The animal jumped on top of the barrels.

“There is nothing back there for you, stay.” Danulf stated plainly.

Family

October 5th, 2009

The main deck of the sand glider was a mess.  After the lion attack, there were feathers and blood everywhere.  Dena got the job of swabbing it.  Danulf thought it was funny.  He proclaimed, “A captain can’t get his hands dirty.”

Dena huffed for a moment then went to do the task.  She was bored on the ship, so working on cleaning was something to do. Grisum glided up to her great-granddaughter.  She watched the girl on her hands and knees scrubbing the remains of the fight from the deck.  Her features pulled back into a gross smile.  “I am happy to see one of my relatives liking work.”

“I am your only relative left.” Dena said, unemotionally.

“How did that happen?” The Lich growled.

“I thought I told you, remember Lord Byrum had all the people with your name slaughtered.”

“My memory must be faulty.  I have been obsessed with revenge, that I must have not listened to you when you told me.”

Dena sighed getting up to her knees. “I might not have told you. Does it matter now? I got my revenge on him, he is gone.  I have to pick my life up now and figure out what to do next.”

Grisum again smiled, “You will have to give me more grand-children.”

“Scary thought.” Dena replied.

Winged lions

September 29th, 2009

The sky filled with a dark cloud of wings.  Claws came down on the sand glider of four winged lions.  The hull took the first on-slaught well.  Danulf rushed to the bridge, he worked on re-enforcing the spells he had cast on the sand glider.

Dena rushed up from below deck, with Greenly her hound. Mindy followed with Garrick.  Both in various states of undress, but they did remember to bring up their weapons.

Grisum glided forward.  She looked at the winged golden beasts with sadness.  These were creatures of the goddess.  She knew that they were there to vanquish her.  Lifting up her arms, power  shot like bolts to her finger tips.  The first lion fell a distance away from the ship.

The second winged lion dove toward Grisum.  With swiftness that was not apparent by her frail looks she deflected the animal with ease.  It fell to the left of the ship into a rock formation.

The last two were quickly dispatched.  Just one word from Grisum lips, “Nucleplation!” The lions exploded in mid-air. Guts fell all over the passengers on the main deck of the sand glider.

Going after Garrick

September 23rd, 2009

Mindy got up. She put away the nectar, then passed the small room. Her thoughts had concluded to stay. Now she was thinking about the tall handsome cleric. He took her breath away. His beard, his height, his broad shoulders, everything about him was what she liked.

Deciding to stay was easy, dealing with her attraction was tough. She decided to do something about it. Walking over to the cabin door, she reached to open it. Opening the door revealed the man of her thoughts. Garrick.

She smiled jumping into his arms. So much for talking, she wanted action.
