Economics A Debate
Wednesday, June 2nd, 2010Should America Model its Social and Economic Policies After Europe?
Posted by NewAmericanFoundation
I like watching Debates, in high school I was in a debate class and went to meets. I wasn’t the speaker EVER, I was someone who went to the library and researched. I would write on 3 by 5 cards direct quotes from periodical articles, I would have to site the article. The debaters would use these cards, which they made their own too, to formulate the pro or con argument.
Enough of memory lane.
This is an hour and a half, I know long, but it is informative.
I also have two PDF’s on my computer currently given to me by a huffington post commenter on “Social Market Economy”, something I had never heard of, and until I read through some, I am not paying the information forward just yet. I want to read and understand what I am reading. Add that to the complex US budget, I’m not an accountant.
So enjoy the debate, I did.
People need food donate to your local food bank
Friday, February 5th, 2010There is so much to fix here in America, that where to start would be the main problem. Until the law makers find that beginning, nothing will be accomplished. In the mean time, people are suffering, some have been unemployed for a full year. Benefits are running low, and the ability to find something to keep them going is growing thin.
This is not just affecting individuals, it is affecting families.
American’s did a great thing helping the people in Haiti. There needs some work here. People give huge amounts of food and charity during the holidays. I am certain the people that got help are grateful. But life continues after that generous holiday.
The food banks need donations. They are on the main fighting lines of this economic down turn. The food banks give help to those who need it. They need sealed canned goods, undamaged packaging, and if you can’t spare that: a donation of money. Each main cities food bank have web-sites that can be found through google.
I did something this week, when this came to my attention. I hope to do more, and get people to help. Thank you if you can.
Economy is Affecting Disney
Tuesday, August 11th, 2009I went to Disney World this weekend. Seeing the gas prices on the drive down was not a shock. The shock to me was room avialablity. I decided to do the trip on friday and was able to book a room at Shades of Green.
The resort is Department of Defense. It is for military and employees of the DOD. Under normal circumstances, I should have not been able to get a room during peak season. I did. A very nice one. The resort was not packed.
Then I went to the water park, Typhoon Lagoon. On a hot day like Saturday, I assumed there would be tons of people. There was not. I had a great time.
I am a Disney Nut. I look for every discount under the sun. Disney is not cheap but I am proud of not paying more than 1000 per vacation. That is my budget, if a Disney Vacation costs me more than that, I won’t go.
Seeing the people at the theme parks was fun, but not what I expected. Summer is the time for vacations here in America, school is out, children are home. I did not hear many American accents at the parks, I heard a lot of foreign accents.
This means to me that the economy is not in recovery. When Disney world is not full on a regular peak season, something is not right. I was told by an employee that the economy of the Orlando Area is hurting. I saw signs on hotels saying, “We have Vacancy.” With people staying home and not vacationing, this area is hurting.
I am lucky having Shades of Green, an affordable option, and the free military ticket that lasts to December 23 of this year. Most are not that lucky.
